Whitefish Rifle and Pistol Club News Letter
September 2011
P.O. Box 3542, Kalispell, MT 59903
Next meeting will be November 2, 2011, at Flathead County Fairgrounds 7:00pm
Since our last newsletter several things have happened.
The club bylaws were finalized and sent to our lawyer to submit to the state to reestablish our incorporation. As of this time we are waiting on the lawyer to get this done so we can then proceed to applying for tax exempt status. As I understand this process even if this application is sent in by the first of next year, it is possible for the actual approval to take several years. Anyway, we are proceeding with the process and will keep the membership updated as things happen.
We have held two rifle club safety orientations for new and returning members. The first one was held at the Flathead County Fairgrounds Country Kitchen with about 7 people attending. The second one was held just prior to our regular meeting at Snappys Sports Senter on September 5th with approximately 20 current members present and two new people who joined at the meeting.
Our plan is to hold an orientation every month, with one being held before our regular meeting and another on the first Wednesday of the off month at the same time, i.e. first Wednesday of the month. We may also hold other orientations as demand requires. I am trying to finalize a schedule and location for our range orientations during the off months we do not have meetings. When I get this finalized a schedule and location will be posted on the website, and anyone joining who needs to attend will be sent a notification.
We clarified some range rules as there have been questions coming in from the website.
1. Use of shotguns on the range. Shotguns will be allowed on the north end of the pistol range. Please bring and use your own portable targets for this. Do not shoot at the pistol boards. The only ammunition allowed is any type of shot, no slugs allowed. If you want to shoot slugs in a shotgun you must use the rifle range.
2. Rifles in .22 rimfire are allowed on the pistol range.
3. All other rifles including muzzle loading must be used on the rifle range.
4. Fully automatic firearms are not allowed on the range. I am adding this as I have been advised someone was firing a fully automatic firearm there recently.
There was a motion voted on and passed at the meeting to allow advertising and/or links to be placed on our website in order to generate income. The money made from doing this will be used initially to fund the website and then other bills as we can.
We have scheduled our annual Hunters Sightin for this year on the weekends of October 1st and 2nd, and again on October 15th and 16th from 10:00am to 4:00pm each day. We will be charging $5.00 per gun again this year. If you can help out, please contact either John Eder 862-1530, or Barry Hatton at 261-3884. Also if you noted on your membership application that you were willing to help with the Hunters Sightin we will be calling you to arrange times when you can help. You don’t have to be there all the time, but if you can volunteer for a couple of hours on anyone of these dates. We appreciate all of the help, and you will have a good time.
I spoke with the DNRC about the status of the state logging operation which was going to occur around the rifle range this winter. According to them this operation has been put on hold indefinitely. Evidently the rumor that someone in Whitefish Hills has gotten the governor to halt this logging is true.
One other item that we will need some help on this winter or possibly next spring. We need to construct and install one more baffle on the west end of the 300 yard firing line. I will be asking for volunteers to help with this project after hunting season is over.
